Twin bills designed to protect California’s wine industry from wildfire smoke will be introduced today. The bills, authored by North Bay Congressman Mike Thompson and California Senator Alex Padilla, will be introduced in the U.S. House and Senate today. The bills aim to promote more research into smoke taint, which has in recent years, ruined grape harvests and costs growers and vintners hundreds of millions of dollars. The legislation would also direct federal regulators to come up with more precise insurance policies against smoke damage. Lawmakers from Washington state and Oregon are co-sponsoring the bills.
