GOP and NRA Aiming to Stop Gun Violence Research in California

The GOP and the NRA want gun violence research to stop and California is in their crosshairs. The Golden State is the leader in American gun violence research because it has an extensive database on firearms. The database was inadvertently revealed when the California Department of Justice accidentally published personal information of approximately 192-thousand gun owners last summer. Firearm owners protested and a lawsuit now threatens the data infrastructure, despite federal funding for this research. House Republicans have vowed to kill the funding. The NRA consistently opposes efforts to provide gun violence data and research. At risk is the information the California data can provide regarding domestic violence, injury and gun deaths.
