The County of Sonoma seems to be continuing to favor one contractor that rose up to address homeless issues during the pandemic. The county turned to DEMA Consulting and Management to run several care sites during the pandemic, paying them $26 million through no-bid contracts to speed up response time. The Press Democrat is now questioning their billing practices during that time, specifically for a director of nursing position that several former and current employees say they didn’t see. The money was approved by the county but actually came through FEMA. The County of Sonoma is still doing business with DEMA who now runs the managed tent site for homeless individuals on Ventura Avenue for $120,000 per month.
