Santa Rosa officials have taken another step toward creating a large park on the eastern side of the city. On Tuesday, the Santa Rosa City Council authorized the city’s real estate manager to negotiate a purchase with the California Department of Transportation. The council also gave the city manager the okay to execute a future agreement. The land is state-owned, so before any development can happen, Santa Rosa has to buy it. The purchase for the two-mile strip of land along Highway 12 is expected to be finalized early next year.
