Time is running out for victims to file claims against the Santa Rosa Roman Catholic Diocese. A bankruptcy judge has set an October 20th deadline for all claims against the diocese. Those include lawsuits already filed against the church and those who haven’t but still want to be part of a settlement. However, new claims are not guaranteed to be included as they will likely be contested by church attorneys and insurers. Once the bankruptcy court finalizes the case and settlements, the church’s liability for any existing claims will be gone, except in the most extreme cases. Since California raised the age limit to 40 for victims to report child sexual abuse crimes, at least 226 new cases have been brought against the Santa Rosa Diocese.
