The approaching Hurricane Hilary is concerning wine growers in Sonoma and Napa Counties. The storm is currently a category four hurricane, but will most likely be a tropical storm by the time it reaches Northern California this weekend or early next week. Still, the storm could potentially bring heavy rains and strong winds, and winegrowers fear losing or having their crops damaged just weeks before harvest season. Vineyards were already facing challenges because of the wet and cooler than usual weather earlier this year. Harvest has been delayed by an average of about three weeks. The cooler temperatures also mean some vineyards face a greater risk of disease, a risk that could be increased by rain.
