The father of Polly Klaas is deciding to shut down a nearly 30-year-old organization he started meant to protect other children. Marc Klaas has announced that the KlaasKids Foundation will run through 2024 before being phased out. Klaas tells the Press Democrat, quote, “I’m 74, and I don’t want to be doing this for the rest of my life.“ He started the foundation a year after the October 1993 kidnapping and murder of his daughter Polly Klaas. Over the years, KlaasKids has aided in protecting kids by fingerprinting and photographing more than 1 million children around the country, assisting more than 1,500 families in searching for missing children, and training more than 1,600 search and rescue volunteers. The KlaasKids Foundation is not to be confused with the Polly Klaas Foundation, which is still operating.
