Every Democrat in the House voted to oust Speaker Kevin McCarthy from his role, including our two North Bay Congressmen. Representatives Jared Huffman and Mike Thompson voted to remove McCarthy. Huffman stated that McCarthy broke so many promises that he couldn’t be trusted. Huffman expressed hope that Republicans would choose a better speaker who is not beholden to MAGA extremists. However, Thompson is not optimistic and fears that a government shutdown might occur in mid-November when the current short-term budget deal is set to expire.
