Santa Rosa police recently conducted three “bait bike” operations in Downtown Santa Rosa over the increase in bike thefts. This 3-day operation involved officers surveilling a bicycle left unattended as “bait” and contacting anyone deciding to take the bicycle. Eleven people were caught with the bike and were each charged with felony grand theft. A few people were also charged with possession of narcotics and a couple others were charged with violation of probation.
