California is delaying this year’s Dungeness crab season. It was supposed to start in two weeks but the Department of Fish and Wildlife thinks it could now be December 1st. The move is to protect whales from becoming entangled in crab traps in an area of the state’s coastline that stretches from the Sonoma-Mendocino County line to the Mexico border. Another risk assessment may determine a new opening date.
