Cal Fire: Fire Season Now a Year-Round Concern

The state’s fire season is expanding. Cal Fire says it’s now become a year-round concern. That’s the message after a home in Contra Costa County went up in flames and turned into a wildfire. Prescribed burns have been helping to reduce the risk. They got off to a slow start this year due to a wet winter but crews have been catching up this fall thanks to mild temperatures. The U.S. Forest Service says it’s treated more than 51-thousand acres of wildland so far and another 250-thousand with other fuel management practices.
