Chemical Spill in Petaluma Prevented from Reaching Waterways

Firefighters and hazmat workers managed to stop a chemical spill in Petaluma from reaching local waterways. Early Monday morning on Sonoma Mountain Parkway, near Cygnus Way,  a chemical spill was spotted involving a 20-gallon spill of an unknown substance from a large abandoned drum. Three other containers were also found near the side of the road. The substance was found to be a petrochemical liquid that posed no threat to the community. First responders prevented any substance from entering the storm drains or waterways before the rain started a couple hours later.
