Sonoma City Council Approves Warming Center at City Owned Home

The City of Sonoma will be opening a warming center but they are changing program operators for the facility. Council members approved the shelter to be inside the Haven, a city-owned manufactured home at 151 West First Street. The city is terminating its agreement with the nonprofit Sonoma Overnight Support or SOS to operate the facility effective January 31, 2024. The warming center will get $30,000 from Sonoma’s redevelopment fund and $3,000 from its general fund for a third-party to operate the site. Additionally, another $25,000 from the general fund will go to replace the facility’s HVAC system. Last December, the city had to open up an emergency warming center at the Sonoma Veterans Hall for eight nights, which cost over $17,000.
