Animal welfare activist Wayne Hsuing has been sentenced to 90 days in Sonoma County Jail for his role in protests at two poultry farms outside Petaluma. Last month, he was convicted of trespassing and conspiracy, more than five years after the protests. Hsiung has also been sentenced to two years of probation, ordered to stay at least 50 yards away from the poultry farms, barred from interacting with his co-conspirators, and banned from going into commercial feeding operations without permission. The 42-year-old Hsiung is the co-founder of the controversial animal rights group Direct Action Everywhere.
Three people have been arrested after protesting the sentencing of animal welfare at Sonoma County Superior Court. Hundreds of people protested his sentencing either outside or inside of the courthouse. Police say two of the demonstrators had outstanding warrants, but haven’t said what they were for. It’s not clear why the third demonstrator was arrested.
