A jury in Sonoma County is awarding nearly $25-million in damages to three children who were sexually abused by their foster father. The money must be paid by Mark Zapata Martinez, who is a convicted felon, and the Santa Rosa-based foster agency Alternative Family Services. The two girls and a boy were sexually abused five years ago. They first filed a lawsuit in May of 2019. Attorneys for the victims say the foster agency placed their clients in Martinez’s home without properly vetting him first.
