Knife recovered from student at Herbert Slater Middle School 12-7-23 (Santa Rosa Police)

Three Herbert Slater Middle School students were in custody Thursday morning, following an altercation where one student was said to be “brandishing” a butcher knife. All three students were 13-year-old boys, and the fight started inside a classroom before the boys quickly fled. The school was then sent into lockdown, while the police searched for the student with the knife. Around 8:25 a.m., the student was seen running from the school and police spotted him. The lockdown was downgraded to a shelter-in-place around 9:10 a.m, concluding just over an hour later. Sergeant Patricia Seffens said that the incident is still being investigated, but the juveniles are in custody. Two Santa Rosa police officers remained on campus for the rest of the school day, and one will be there today.
