Santa Rosa to Update New Rules for Wildland Urban Interface Tuesday

New wildfire prevention rules for Santa Rosa’s property owners may be approved tomorrow. Last week, the city council tentatively approved updates for property owners within the city’s wildland urban interface. A second formal reading will occur tomorrow. After approval, the new rules would go into effect in 30 days. Properties within Santa Rosa’s wildland urban interface will have to do more to create buffers around their properties, trim overhanging trees and clear other flammable debris to slow or stop the spread of fires. This would apply to more than 9,000 properties across Fountaingrove, Skyhawk, Montecito, Bennett Valley and the southern part of Oakmont.
