For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, California is going to see fewer people die. Data from the California Department of Public Health shows the number of deaths from all causes is expected to fall under 300-thousand this year, closer to pre-pandemic norms. That’s down from a high of 330-thousand deaths in 2021. Health officials say the decline is primarily due to fewer COVID deaths. Despite the pandemic, heart disease and cancer remain the top causes of death in California.
