The City of Santa Rosa has been given a micro grant to aid in homeless outreach. The grant of over $100-thousand will enhance homeless outreach efforts through the creation of a Homeless Outreach Team within the Santa Rosa Police Department. Participating patrol officers will work directly with the SRPD Downtown Enforcement Team to receive training on homeless outreach best practices and de-escalation techniques. They will also conduct outreach assessments to identify those within the unhoused community who need support. Because of the many contacts police officers have with the homeless community, this will further the City of Santa Rosa’s efforts to offer housing and support services and address the issues and causes of homelessness. Santa Rosa police will also conduct twice monthly operations with partner organizations, like Catholic Charities, to address homeless-related issues.
