Federal regulators are denying a permit application for a controversial hydropower facility on the Sonoma Coast. The facility would have been built on coastal land near Fort Ross. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission issued the decision Tuesday. It cites a series of objections from the government and the public and its potential effects on protected public lands, including Fort Ross State Historic Park and the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary offshore. The plan was proposed by Alabama-based Hydro Green Energy, which can now ask for a rehearing within 30 days.
