The suspended Mendocino County auditor wants the County DA’s office to be recused from her case. Chamise Cubbison contends that DA David Eyster has a conflict of interest in her case dating back to Eyster’s public opposition of Cubbison being appointed interim auditor-controller in 2021. Cubbison’s attorney claims that this incident combined with the refusal to reimburse the DA’s office for holiday parties created a “contentious relationship.” However, the California Attorney General’s office contends that there isn’t enough evidence to warrant the DA’s recusal. Still, the matter is expected to be heard before a judge today. Cubbison, along with former Mendocino County payroll manager Paula Kennedy, are accused of misappropriating $68-thousand in public funds between October of 2019, and August of 2022.
