A Petaluma man has been sentenced to 50 years in prison for domestic charges. Thirty-three-year-old Eugene Nelson received his sentence yesterday after pleading no-contest in November of last year to crimes including sexual assault, inflicting great bodily injury upon a domestic partner, and solicitation to commit murder. Nelson had attacked his domestic partner several times in March and April of 2022 while they were living in a tent in the Steamer’s Landing area of Petaluma. He even threatened to kill the victim if she ever left him. After Nelson was arrested, he solicited other inmates to murder the victim to prevent her from testifying against him in court. District Attorney Carla Rodriguez stated, “The surviving victim showed great courage in coming forward and being willing to testify against the defendant.”
