Another televised debate is in the works for California’s Senate race. The top four candidates will meet again on February 12th. Democratic Representatives Adam Schiff, Barbara Lee and Katie Porter joined Republican Steve Garvey on stage in Los Angeles yesterday. They touched on several topics such as abortion, green energy, homelessness, and violence in the Middle East. The two winners from the March primary will face off in November.
In a debate hosted by Politico and USC, California Representative Katie Porter accused Congressman Adam Schiff of taking “dirty money” from big oil and big pharma. Porter said Schiff has cashed checks from fossil fuel companies while she has gone after polluters. Schiff meanwhile questioned what Porter has accomplished during her time in office. He said Californians need a senator who gets things done, not more talking points.
Steve Garvey said he would not vote for a federal ban on abortion. Democratic Representative Katie Porter meanwhile pushed back against that, arguing Republicans ultimately want to pass a nationwide abortion ban. Democratic Congressman Adam Schiff called the Supreme Court’s decision striking down Roe v. Wade “dangerous,” arguing it endangered the safety of millions of women.
