Sonoma State University faculty members claim they were attacked while taking part in Monday’s strike. Two professors say a man driving a Tesla tried to pepper spray them in a crosswalk, but missed. About five hours later and about a block away from the first attack, four teen boys drove past faculty and shot them with water beads. The Sonoma State employees were hit but not injured. The vehicle the teens were in was later found at nearby Rancho Cotate High School. The employees chose not to press charges. Police believe the attacks were random and not related to the now-resolved CSU faculty strike.
Meanwhile, students and professors are back in their classes after that strike. The faculty strike at all 23 California State University campuses was initially scheduled to go five days. But on Monday night, the California Faculty Association tentatively agreed to a new contract with the CSU that includes a five-percent raise retroactive to July 1st of last year, and another five-percent raise that takes effect on July 1st of this year. The lowest paid faculty are also in line for a pair of three-thousand-dollar raises.
