Sonoma County should expect more economic growth in 2024. UCLA Economist Dr. Jerry Nickelsburg spoke yesterday at the Sonoma County Economic Development Board’s 2024 Economic Perspective at SSU and said “Fairly robust demand is expected to keep the economy growing.” Job growth in Sonoma County is up to 2.8-percent since 2020 with unemployment now at 3.7-percent. Leisure and hospitality, construction, health care and social services all saw job gains of 6-percent in 2023. The biggest decline was among farm jobs, dropping by 2-percent, which is common at year’s end due to poor weather conditions. Statewide, California GDP in 2023 grew by 13-percent, which is the 7th best in the country.
