A 21-year-old man testified Wednesday, detailing his encounters with a former Napa County school employee charged with molesting several children over a decade. Identified only as Isaac, he was among accusers whose testimony kicked off the trial of former Pope Valley Union Elementary School employee Benjamin Casas. Isaac said he was a seventh-grader when Casas hugged him without consent, rubbed his legs and said it’s OK to be gay even though Isaac never told staff about his sexuality. Arrested at his Pope Valley home on October 1st, 2022, the 34-year-old defendant is charged with 23 counts of sexually abusing five children since January 2013. He faces life in prison if convicted as charged, according to Napa County Superior Court records.
