Wind and Rain Pound Sonoma County Over the Weekend

Rainfall totals from the latest atmospheric river to hit the North Bay have not been consistent. Bodega Bay saw three-point-four-inches of rain in 12 hours between Sunday morning and afternoon. Petaluma had just a third of an inch of rain during that same period. Expect some valley locations to get more than three or four inches of rain between Saturday night and this afternoon. The coastal mountain ranges may see as much as five inches of rain by this afternoon.
The second atmospheric river to hit the North Bay in less than a week is unleashing strong winds on the region, which have led to several downed trees in roadways and on homes. On Sunday, no place in the region felt stronger winds than Sonoma County’s mountain ranges, which clocked gusts of up to 66-miles-per-hour. Valley areas had gusts as strong as 40-miles-per-hour. The National Weather Service and local authorities say there have been no reported issues due to the rain or flooding, saying most of the problems are due to the wind. In some places, the wind sent trees into wires and caused transformers to blow.
In Santa Rosa, a driver was seriously injured when a tree crushed his vehicle on a portion of Highway 101 near Todd Road – first responders needed more than an hour to free him. Northbound lanes on 101 were closed for several hours.
