Report: California Still Failing with Domestic Violence Prevention

The Little Hoover Commission, an independent state oversight agency, has reviewed California’s response to the recommendations the commission had given the state on how it responds to intimate partner abuse. The Commission released reports in 2020 and 2021 with recommendations and this new report reveals the state has fallen short in some areas. According to the commission, the state has strengthened some of its domestic violence prevention tools but still lacks long-term prevention and early intervention plans. The state has also not addressed outdated firearms databases and staffing shortages which make it difficult to remove firearms from those prohibited from owning them. Among other shortcomings, the new report also concludes the state can make several changes to existing programs to help survivors acquire safe and affordable housing.
