Efforts to remove more diesel fuel from the 57-ton fishing boat that ran aground near Bodega Bay are suspended due to weather. The 58-foot Aleutian Storm, based in San Francisco, has been stuck on South Salmon Creek State Beach since last Friday night. An unknown amount of fuel was removed during low tide on Tuesday morning. But, the U.S. Coast Guard says efforts to remove more fuel on Wednesday were called off due to wind and rain. Officials also now confirm that the boat has leaked some fuel into the protected waters of the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary. Crews may bring heavy equipment onto the beach today to pull the boat farther up onto the sand and out of the way of potentially damaging heavy surf expected during the storm.
