County of Sonoma Failed to Apply for Tens-of-Millions of Dollars for Substance Abuse Treatment Back in 2018

Sonoma County seemingly passed up on nearly $40-million to fund substance abuse treatment. The Press Democrat reports that back in 2018, the county’s Department of Health Services were on the verge of joining a state program that could’ve delivered over $38-million dollars to fund an extensive array of substance abuse treatment services for low income residents. An email from the county indicated that they could’ve started the program by April of 2018 . However, then-director of health care services, Barbie Robinson, never took the agreement to the Supervisors for their approval, and never returned a signed agreement to the state. It’s unclear why the county didn’t pursue the program any further at that time but the Department of Health Services has applied again to join the program.
