Sebastopol’s Budget Deficit Grows to Nearly $3-Million

Sebastopol’s projected budget deficit has grown to nearly $3 million, and it will be the focus of the city’s next council meeting. The council declared a fiscal emergency last November. At that time the city was facing a $1.6 million dollar general fund deficit and was projected to run out of reserves in three years. According to accounting consultancy Baker Tilly, the city is looking at a $2 million deficit next year, if costs aren’t lowered, and an average $2.9 million a year deficit over the next 10 years. Tuesday’s meeting is at 6 p.m. on Zoom and in person at the Sebastopol Youth Annex.
