A new report shows huge amounts of money being donated to California Governor Gavin Newsom and other Democrats over the past six years, from trial lawyers. The report from the American Tort Reform Association shows Newsom getting over a million dollars from 20 law firms. Those firms also spent almost a million dollars in the successful effort to defeat a Newsom recall in 2022. Attorney General Rob Bonta got over a third of a million dollars. Former Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones received 227-thousand. The Sacramento Bee reports the California Democratic Party got around 425-thousand dollars in contributions from trial lawyers.
