California is using new technology to better manage the huge amount of water resources stored underground. California stores more water underground than above. It’s been 10 years since the California’s Sustainable Groundwater Management Act was passed. A program called the Airborne Electromagnetic Surveys uses state of the art tech to track groundwater storage over the 16-thousand miles of underground waterways. Managing underground water storage is tricky, because different materials require different methods of extraction. The Electromagnetic Survey scans to one-thousand feet below surface, giving water resource managers an accurate measurement.
