Santa Rosa Man Pleads Not Guilty in Fentanyl Overdose Death in Novato

A Santa Rosa man is pleading not guilty to charges related to a fentanyl overdose death. Thirty-four-year-old Callen Scheffler pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter in a Marin County court Wednesday. Friends and family of the victim, Samantha Azzolino of Cloverdale, attended the hearing. Some were wearing shirts with her photo and the message “Justice for Samantha.” If convicted, Scheffler could face up to four years in prison. Azzolino died last August after Scheffler provided cocaine to her and another person, while he had cocaine and fentanyl for himself. He drove the two to a Novato hospital after they overdosed. Azzolino died and the other person was put into a medically induced coma.
