North Coast Congressman Jared Huffman is denying claims that ranchers are being pushed into leaving the Point Reyes National Seashore during ongoing mediation talks. On Tuesday, he called those claims “misinformed” and inaccurate. Confidential mediation talks and negotiations about the future of dairy and cattle ranching in the federal park are still taking place. It comes after environmental groups sued regarding the future of animal agriculture in the area. The mediation talks involve those environmental groups, The Nature Conservancy, representatives of the national seashore, and ranchers. Huffman is also calling out North Bay dairyman Albert Straus, saying he is spreading faulty information and trying “to blow up the mediation.” Straus says he is concerned about the longtime dairy and ranching families who he says are being pushed out and exhausted over the fight to keep their businesses going.
