A few weeks after several residents were startled by the sound of a fighter jet buzzing overhead, there is another mysterious aircraft visiting Sonoma County. There has been a helicopter circling and hovering over parts of Santa Rosa on and off since last week. The helicopter was most recently seen over northeast Santa Rosa on Monday morning, hovering 300 to 600 feet off the ground. The helicopter is registered to Sacramento-based Wilson Utility Helicopters. Online records say the company provides patrol, mapping and infrared inspection of powerlines, pipelines and waterways, plus powerline maintenance and construction and snowpack survey. That means the helicopter may be in town doing subcontractor work for PG&E.
