A Bay Area teacher arrested for child sex crimes is now dead. Darren Smith’s body was found floating in the ocean off Drakes Beach and recovered last night. Calls into 911 reported a surfer washed out to sea at Point Reyes. The 55-year-old Fairfax man taught music in the Mill Valley Unified School District. Officials put him on leave and notified the Marin County Sheriff’s Office. Detectives arrested Smith Tuesday on suspicion of lewd and lascivious acts with a child and sexual abuse. His bail had been set at 200-thousand dollars.
