Governor Gavin Newsom is supporting a bill from San Diego Assembly member Chris Ward that would focus housing plans in California on the homeless. Assembly Bill 3093 would change the goals from providing housing for those making less than 50-percent of the area median income to three new categories: very low, extremely low and acutely low incomes, making up to 50, 30 and 15-percent of the AMI. The Governor says it will better force cities to plan for the housing that can help the homeless. The bill would also require each area to submit data on the homeless population to include them in the regional housing needs allocation from the state.
