City of Sebastopol Might Be Sued for Pulling Out of Housing Project

Could the city of Sebastopol be sued after pulling out of a homeless housing project? That’s the question a law firm will answer on behalf of the non-profit St. Vincent de Paul. The Press Democrat reports that Santa Rosa law firm Perry, Johnson, Anderson, Miller & Moskowitz will look into the “thwarted” Gravenstein Commons project after the City Council pulled its support. The 22-unit permanent supportive housing project was initially approved about a year ago. It was to be funded by a $6.5 million state Project Homekey grant for which Sebastopol co-applied. However, the Sebastopol City Council rescinded its support after a report from the city manager stated that jurisdictions that sponsor Homekey projects are financially responsible for them. St. Vincent de Paul reportedly invested about a million dollars into the project and are now looking to see if they can get some of that money recouped.
