The trial of a man accused of murdering his Rancho Cotate High School classmate in 2016 is underway. Opening statements were delivered on Monday. Daniel Carrillo, who is now 23-year-old, is accused of murdering 18-year-old Kirk Kimberly, then burying his body in a shallow grave on Sonoma State University property in Rohnert Park. Sonoma County prosecutors say Kimberly was stabbed six times, including once in the head, penetrating his skull. Prosecutors says Kimberly’s DNA was found on a knife owned by Carrillo.
