The number of wildfires across the state is up to 18. And eight of those just started yesterday. One is already the third biggest in California topping 52-hundred acres with no containment in sight. It’s burning in Calaveras County, east of Stockton near Angels Camp. Officials say the Aero Fire is moving very fast due to high winds, forcing evacuations and causing power outages for about seven-thousand homes. A highway and several roads are also closed.
Also, a major fire has broken out in Colusa County. Called the Sites Fire, it broke out yesterday afternoon southeast of Stonyford and has grown to ten-thousand acres with zero containment. Evacuations in the area have been ordered with a shelter set up at the Colusa Veterans Hall. It’s unknown what resources are being used but several aircraft and a strike team are battling the blaze. Cal Fire LNU Division, the same handling the Point Fire, is leading the response for the Sites Fire.
