More than a million people are expected to pack San Francisco this weekend. While many come for Pride celebrations, other events will be going on as well and that means crowded roads. A few streets already closed yesterday and several others will follow today. City leaders are urging locals and visitors to use public transportation. BART will have trains running every five minutes through downtown. Muni and Golden Gate Transit also expanded service and the San Francisco Bay Ferry is offering extra rides on Sunday.
With Pride weekend kicking off today in San Francisco, police aren’t taking any chances. Every officer will be deployed across the city along with around 100 retired police ambassadors. Chief Scott is asking everyone to keep their eyes and ears open, saying “The best defense is vigilance.” Cops have rainbow pride patches on their uniforms as a display of unity. They’ll be monitoring tonight’s Trans March in Dolores Park and tomorrow’s Pride festival at Civic Center Plaza. Then on Sunday, it’s the massive Pride Parade down Market Street.
