A dangerous new heat wave is hitting California this holiday week. The Excessive Heat Warning begins Tuesday and lasts through Sunday evening with many places baking in temperatures 20-degrees above average. Santa Rosa is set to reach a high of 106 degrees today. Napa is expected to reach a high of 104. Triple digit temperatures and very warm overnight lows are expected into the weekend in the North Bay mountains and interior valleys. The region is facing heightened wildfire risk due strong northerly winds and low humidity. Forecasters also warn heat stroke is a real possibility especially as millions in California plan to be outside celebrating the Fourth of July.
High temperatures are leading to an increased risk of wildfire in Sonoma County. The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for elevated wildfire risk in Sonoma, Napa and Lake counties. The warning went into effect at 11 o’clock last night. It will remain in effect through 11 p.m. tonight for Sonoma County’s coastal mountain ranges and through 5 p.m. tomorrow for the North Bay interior mountains.
