A shakeup could be coming to several fire departments in Sonoma County. The Gold Ridge Fire Protection District, which is already the county’s third largest fire district, is looking to add the Monte Rio Fire Protection District and the Sebastopol Fire Department into its territory. The changes are expected to come next spring or summer. It follows the merger of seven other volunteer fire districts in coastal and western Sonoma County. Gold Ridge would add the Monte Rio and Sebastopol firehouses and become the second largest fire district in the county, passing the Sonoma County Fire District’s coverage area by about 25 square miles.
