There have been over 35-hundred wildland fires in the Golden State so far this year, and officials say the early and active fire season shows no signs of slowing down. Cal Fire Battalion Chief Jesse Torres says humidities are low, winds are high, and temperatures are high. It’s the perfect recipe for fire starts. He also says recent heat waves have made conditions even drier, providing the ideal fuel for destructive fires. According to Cal Fire, over 207-thousand acres have burned across the state since the start of the year. This is a startling jump from the same period last year, when the department reported just about three-thousand wildland fires and just over ten-thousand acres burned.
