An effort to place an update to Sonoma County’s lodging tax ordinance on the November ballot has failed, at least for now. The proposed update would expand the types of businesses subject to the tax to include those that use online booking platforms like Airbnb. A county vendor estimates the move would generate an extra one-and-a-half-million-dollars in revenue. The proposal was first presented to the Board of Supervisors last week, then revised. This week, it did not move forward after two rounds of voting. Supervisor David Rabbitt says he doesn’t agree with the new language in the proposal regarding what defines and organized camp and isn’t clear on which businesses the measure would apply to. The current ordinance exempts all organized camps from the lodging tax.
