Biden Dropping Out of the Presidential Race Gets Reaction From Across California

California lawmakers are reacting to President Biden’s decision to drop his re-election bid. Governor Gavin Newsom called Biden an “extraordinary, history-making president” and a leader who fought hard for working people. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said Biden has been one of the most successful and consequential presidents in American history and that Los Angeles residents have benefited directly from his leadership. San Francisco Mayor London Breed said she agreed with Biden’s decision to support Vice President Kamala Harris to be the next Democratic nominee. Breed also said its time for Democrats to unite “and focus on winning this election.”

As for North Bay lawmakers, Congressman Jared Huffman thanked Biden “for putting Democrats in a position to reenergize this race and save democracy by winning this election.” Huffman also says he will do everything he possibly can to make Harris the next president. Congressman Mike Thompson, of Saint Helena, says Biden “has selflessly dedicated his life to serving the country.” State Senate President pro Tempore Mike McGuire, of Healdsburg, says Biden has led the nation with “incredible skill, heart and determination.”

Even Several of Sonoma County’s agricultural industry leaders are reacting to President Biden’s decision to end his reelection bid. They spoke to the Press Democrat on Sunday, at an event showcasing local agriculture. Dayna Ghirardelli, executive director of the Sonoma County Farm Bureau, says the decision is better for the former president’s health, adding that the decision isn’t just about politics, but about humanity. Sam Dolcini, a former president of the Marin County Farm Bureau, says Biden’s decision is “a surprise but not unexpected.” Paul Martin, a retired Petaluma dairy rancher, also commented on the health aspect, saying Biden running for reelection longer, “would have killed him.”
