Petaluma Mobile Home Park Residents Appeal to City Council for Help with New Owners

Residents of Capri Villa mobile home park in Petaluma are facing significant rent increases and allege racist and manipulative tactics by management. In May, residents received letters announcing rent hikes of up to 92-percent. Many Spanish-speaking and senior residents claim they were coerced into signing long-term leases that bypass local rent control laws. Harmony Communities, the new owner, is accused of exploiting vulnerable tenants. Over 150 residents appealed to the Petaluma City Council for enforcement of mobile home park rules. The Press Democrat reports the rent hikes have automatically triggered an arbitration hearing set for August 13th.
