Commissary prices in Sonoma County Jail are on the rise. The Press Democrat reports, in the past year, the costs of basic hygiene products, snacks and writing materials have gone up by ten percent or more. That’s higher than the current U.S. inflation rate and more expensive than commissary costs at San Quentin State Prison. Shaving cream that sold for three dollars, 25 cents in 2021 has doubled in price, the cost of shower shoes grew from a dollar-65 to three dollars and 49 cents, deodorant costs more than a dollar and the price of ramen is up from 70 cents to a dollar-17. The only free items the jail provides to inmates are soap, toilet paper and feminine products.
