The California Highway Patrol is releasing new information about last week’s deadly 12-vehicle pileup on Highway 12 in west Santa Rosa. The CHP says the driver of a dump truck caused the crash. He was allegedly driving at least 50-miles-per-hour and failed to step on the brake pedal before slamming into stopped traffic. A man in one of the other vehicles, identified as a retired high school teacher, died. The CHP also says the dump truck did not have any mechanical issues prior to the crash. The driver of the dump truck has not been arrested in connection with the crash.
